English Definition
Any financial instrument or contractual mechanism used to mitigate exposure to market risk, including forward contracts, futures, options, swaps, and natural hedges. The selection of an appropriate hedging device depends on the nature of the underlying risk, the desired degree of protection, and cost considerations. In project finance, hedging devices are embedded in loan documentation to protect debt service capacity.
