English Definition
A specific trade or contract entered into for the purpose of offsetting the risk of an existing or anticipated exposure to price, interest rate, or currency movements. Under hedge accounting standards, a hedging transaction must be formally documented and its effectiveness regularly tested. Qualifying hedging transactions receive favourable accounting treatment that reduces profit and loss volatility.
