English Definition
A person who has acquired a negotiable instrument in good faith, for value, and without notice of any defect in title or defence against it. A holder in due course enjoys the strongest legal protections under commercial law, including immunity from many defences that could be raised against prior holders. This doctrine promotes the free circulation of negotiable instruments by protecting innocent purchasers.
