English Definition
The person or entity currently in lawful possession of a bill of exchange, promissory note, or similar negotiable instrument with the right to demand payment at maturity. The holder may be the original payee or a subsequent transferee through endorsement. Holders have standing to present the bill for acceptance or payment and to initiate protest proceedings in case of dishonour.
