Marine insurance covering physical damage to or loss of the ship's hull, machinery, and equipment from perils of the sea including collisions, grounding, fire, and heavy weather. Hull insurance is a fundamental requirement in ship financing, as lenders require adequate coverage to protect the collateral securing the vessel loan. Premiums are determined by vessel type, age, trading routes, classification society status, and loss history.
