Bir ülkenin belirli bir dönemde ithalatının ihracatını aşan kısmıdır; dış ticaret açığının mal tarafındaki karşılığıdır ve cari açığın temel bileşenlerinden biridir. Makro düzeyde süreklilik kazanan bir ithalat fazlası, döviz rezervleri üzerinde baskı yaratır ve zamanla ithalat kısıtlaması ya da devalüasyon beklentisini besler. Proje finansmanında bu tablo dolaylı ama gerçek bir risktir; yapısal ithalat fazlası taşıyan bir ekonomide offshore borç servisi için gereken dövizin bulunabilirliği ve kurun istikrarı, projenin kendi performansından bağımsız olarak zayıflayabilir.
English Definition
The amount by which a country's imports exceed its exports over a given period — the goods-side counterpart of a trade deficit and one of the core components of a current-account deficit. At the macro level a persistent import surplus pressures foreign reserves and over time feeds expectations of import rationing or devaluation. In project finance this picture is an indirect but real risk; in an economy carrying a structural import surplus, the availability of the foreign exchange needed for offshore debt service and the stability of the exchange rate can weaken independently of the project's own performance.
