Bir ödemenin, ait olduğu dönemin sonunda yapılması ya da vadesi geldiği halde henüz yapılmamış olması anlamına gelen, bağlama göre iki yönlü kullanılan bir terimdir. Kredi yapılandırmasında faizin dönem başı (in advance) yerine dönem sonu (in arrears) ödenmesi, borçlunun nakit akışını rahatlatır ancak faizin efektif maliyetini değiştirir. Proje finansmanında değişken faizli borçta gösterge oranın çoğu zaman dönem sonunda sabitlenmesi (arrears fixing), faiz riskinin dönem içinde açık kalmasına yol açar; bu açıklık, faiz riskinden korunma yapısının tasarımını doğrudan etkiler.
English Definition
A term used in two directions depending on context, meaning either that a payment is made at the end of the period to which it relates or that it is overdue though already due. In loan structuring, paying interest in arrears rather than in advance eases the borrower's cash flow but changes the effective cost of the interest. In project finance the benchmark on floating-rate debt is often set at the end of the period (arrears fixing), leaving interest exposure open during the period — an openness that directly shapes the design of the hedge.
