A predefined sudden and unforeseen event falling within a policy's scope, functioning as the trigger that activates the insurer's indemnity obligation. In project financing the definition of an insured accident under construction all-risk and erection policies is negotiated to align precisely with the loan agreement's insurance covenant, because the boundary between a covered event and an excluded design defect determines which party carries the cash at the moment of loss. Lenders typically require the sponsor to absorb the deductible and the proceeds to be paid first to them as loss payee.
