English Definition
The body of rules governing the process by which a generating or consuming facility connects to the transmission or distribution grid, regulating elements such as queue position, technical study, cost allocation, and timeline. Because the financeability of an energy project often rests on the interconnection right these principles establish, the firmness of the queue position and whether the cost of grid upgrades falls on the project or the grid are among the earliest questions lenders ask. In the US, congestion in the interconnection queue and reforms to cost-allocation rules are a structural source of uncertainty that directly affects the development timetable and how long equity commitments remain tied up.
