English Definition
An inward bill of lading is the transport document issued when an import consignment moves to its port of arrival, evidencing title to and the right to take delivery of the goods; it is the directional counterpart of the outward bill raised for exports. In documentary-credit transactions it is the pivotal instrument confirming that goods have physically arrived and triggering the buyer's right of collection. During the equipment-heavy construction phase of a project financing, the negotiability of this document is a critical security element for lenders, since any delay or discrepancy on its face can directly stall the EPC schedule.
