English Definition
The principle that several obligors are each liable for the entirety of the same debt, both together and individually, so that a creditor may pursue any one of them, in any order, for the whole amount. Lenders in project finance insist on this construction because it lets them reach the most creditworthy party directly and spreads collection risk across the obligors. The paying obligor's right of contribution against the others is of no concern to the creditor; internal apportionment is a matter left among the debtors.
