English Definition
A lean manufacturing discipline in which materials and components are delivered to the line precisely when needed rather than held in inventory. It compresses working capital and storage cost, yet by eliminating buffer stock it leaves the supply chain fragile to a single disruption. Carried into the procurement planning of a capital-intensive project, thin buffers expose the construction schedule to a single-source delay and can trip liquidated-damages thresholds directly; on long-lead critical equipment, prudent EPC contractors therefore temper JIT with strategic safety stock rather than apply it uniformly.
