English Definition
A legally enforceable obligation arising from contract, tort, statute, or other legal basis that requires a party to perform an act or pay compensation. Legal liabilities are recognised on the balance sheet when they are probable and can be reliably estimated. In project finance, the identification and allocation of legal liabilities between project participants is a central element of transaction structuring.
