English Definition
A document by which a depositor or account holder grants a bank the right to retain and apply funds held in the account as security for obligations owed to the bank. The letter of lien creates a contractual lien over the deposit, giving the bank priority in the event of the depositor's default. It is commonly used as additional security in trade finance and overdraft facilities.
