English Definition
The London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange was a centre for trading standardised derivatives, chiefly interest-rate, bond and currency contracts, and among the early venues to move from an open-outcry floor to an electronic platform. The short-term interest-rate futures used to manage the interest exposure of corporate borrowing found deep liquidity there. Although successive consolidation folded it first into Euronext and then into a broader exchange group, the contract types it traded remain the institutional infrastructure through which an interest-rate anchor is established in project finance.
