English Definition
A listed building is a structure that has been placed on a statutory register of buildings of special architectural, historical, or cultural interest, affording it legal protection from demolition, alteration, or neglect without prior consent from the relevant heritage authority. Listing imposes additional planning and development constraints on the property owner. In infrastructure and energy project development, the presence of listed buildings on or near a project site can significantly impact design, planning permissions, and project costs.
