English Definition
Compensation paid to an employee when the employer terminates the relationship — severance, notice, and comparable entitlements — or the insurance cover that protects that income stream. At project scale its significance lies in the contingent liability created by the workforce reduction that inevitably accompanies the wind-down of construction and the transition into operations, a figure that often enters the model late and hides in the tail of the completion budget. A sponsor who fails to tie this item to a pre-funded provision in the site-closure plan meets an unexpected cash outflow precisely at commissioning.
