English Definition
The entry of accounting records into ledgers by machine or automated system rather than by hand; though it originates in mechanical bookkeeping machines, it is the forerunner of today's automated journal and reconciliation processes. By reducing posting error and reconciliation lag, it bears directly on the reliability of cash management within a project company and of the periodic reporting delivered to lenders. Reporting covenants in loan agreements often tacitly assume that the posting system leaves an auditable trail.
