A notation indicating that a datum exists but is inaccessible or not yet reported, conceptually distinct from 'not applicable' and from zero. In financial modeling and data-room review this distinction governs how an analyst fills the gap, because an item flagged 'not available' can systematically distort ratio and covenant tests if it is entered into the model as zero; seasoned modelers therefore carry such cells on a separate layer, resolved through interpolation or an explicit stated assumption rather than a silent nil.
