English Definition
The standard notation indicating that an item does not apply in the relevant context, so that the answer is neither blank nor zero but out of scope. In project-finance document sets this distinction looks trivial yet carries legal weight: in disclosure schedules and representation-and-warranty annexes, entering 'not applicable' against a provision differs materially from leaving the cell empty, since the two set up different ground for a later dispute over whether an omission was inadvertent or a deliberate scoping decision, and careful counsel never treats them as interchangeable.
