Gross national income minus the consumption of fixed capital, representing the income available to the nation after accounting for depreciation of its capital stock. Net national income provides a more accurate picture of a nation's true economic well-being than gross measures. It is used in international comparisons of living standards and as a basis for calculating per capita income and assessing the sustainability of economic growth.
