English Definition
A funding structure in which the financier's only source of repayment is the revenue generated by the financed asset or project, with no recourse to the sponsor or borrower beyond the ring-fenced assets. Non-recourse financing is fundamental to project finance, asset-backed lending, and leveraged buyouts where the underlying asset's cash generation capacity determines creditworthiness. Lenders compensate for the increased risk through higher pricing, stricter covenants, and comprehensive security packages over project assets.
