The right of non-resident holders of a country's currency to freely convert their holdings into foreign currencies without restriction. Non-resident convertibility is a key element of current account liberalisation and is typically established before full capital account convertibility. Countries that maintain non-resident convertibility attract greater foreign investment and trade participation, while those restricting it may face reduced international confidence and higher risk premiums on sovereign debt.
