English Definition
The average period of time required for a business to convert cash into inventory, sell the inventory, and collect the resulting receivables back into cash. The normal operating cycle determines the classification boundary between current and non-current assets and liabilities on the balance sheet. Industries with longer operating cycles, such as construction, aerospace, and wine production, may have cycles exceeding twelve months, which affects working capital requirements and the timing of revenue recognition.
