English Definition
The national currency of Norway, whose exchange-rate behavior is strongly tied to the country's petroleum and natural-gas revenues. In project finance conducted across Northern Europe this link produces practical consequences, because in a project whose revenues arise in euro or dollars while part of its costs fall in kroner, the currency risk is more complex than a simple cross rate owing to the correlation between commodity price and currency; the hedging strategy must therefore be constructed around the underlying commodity exposure, not the exchange rate alone.
