English Definition
The recurring operating and maintenance expenditure required to keep an asset running and efficient after it reaches commercial operation. In project finance this line fundamentally alters the risk profile depending on whether it is contractually fixed, since a fixed-price O&M agreement makes cash flow predictable, whereas an open-ended arrangement passes inflation and spares cost straight to the sponsor and compounds pressure on DSCR over the tenor. Lenders therefore typically require, at covenant level, that an adequate O&M reserve account be funded ahead of debt service.
