English Definition
A representation and hospitality expense a company incurs in entertaining counterparties while conducting business. Though small in magnitude, in project finance it is a sensitive point of anti-corruption compliance wherever contact with public officials is involved, and the documentation and reasonableness threshold for hospitality spending is frequently written explicitly into the ethical covenants of DFI loan agreements. On the tax side the deductibility of such expenses is capped in most jurisdictions, producing a systematic difference between the accounting and taxable base.
