English Definition
A business relocating part of its activity outside its home country in pursuit of cost, tax, or regulatory advantage, and, in an energy context, encompassing drilling and production conducted at sea. In project finance financing offshore operations is the problem of bridging legal enforceability in the jurisdiction where the activity sits and the country where the parent resides; when the place security is created diverges from the place cash is generated, the lender's real reach weakens. Account control and cash sweep mechanisms are therefore the most carefully negotiated components of the security package in offshore operations.
