English Definition
An instruction attached to a trading order requiring execution at the stated limit price or at a price more favorable to the client. Marking an order or better denies the broker any latitude to fill at a worsening price, which in turn raises the risk of partial fills or non-execution, particularly in thinly traded instruments such as project bonds. In practice the instruction expresses a preference for price protection over execution certainty, so it is avoided where a position must be closed quickly.
