Bir yükümlülüğün belirli bir tarihte hâlâ ödenmesi gereken, henüz tesviye edilmemiş parasal büyüklüğüdür. Ana para, tahakkuk etmiş faiz ve varsa temerrüt faizini birlikte kapsayabildiği için, sözleşmelerde ödenmemiş tutarın bileşenlerine ayrıştırılması ihtilaf anında kritik önem taşır. Proje finansmanında bu tutar, geri ödeme takviminin (amortisation schedule) her ölçüm tarihinde yeniden hesaplanan bakiyesidir ve erken kapama (prepayment) hükümlerindeki make-whole bedelinin hesabında temel alınır; dolayısıyla küçük bir hesaplama farkı bile refinansman ekonomisini kayda değer biçimde değiştirebilir.
English Definition
The monetary quantity of an obligation still due and unsettled at a given date. Because it can bundle principal, accrued interest and, where applicable, default interest, decomposing the outstanding amount into its components proves decisive in any dispute. In project finance it is the balance of the amortisation schedule recomputed at each measurement date and serves as the base for the make-whole payable under prepayment provisions; consequently even a small calculation difference can materially shift the economics of a refinancing, which is why the definition is negotiated as carefully as the margin itself.
