English Definition
The integrating, enterprise-level strategy that encompasses and gives direction to the tactics of individual business units or projects. Because it forms the frame each lower-level decision must reference, a loss of its coherence drives units toward conflicting objectives that consume one another's resources. In multi-asset holding and conglomerate structures the overarching strategy is the portfolio logic determining which asset receives capital at which maturity threshold; in project finance the financing structure of a single asset is frequently shaped not by that asset's own economics but by group-level constraints such as the consolidated leverage ceiling and cross-collateralisation policy, a dependence that is often overlooked when the asset is appraised in isolation.
