The act of persistently and systematically presenting a figure or fact above its true level — the description not of a single item but often of a trend or a habit of disclosure. A developer that steadily overstates its backlog or the maturity of its pipeline erodes trust in a corporate credit assessment; an experienced lender keeps a variance record comparing past projections against actual outcomes, and where that variance leans consistently optimistic, it raises the haircut applied to the next model accordingly.
