English Definition
A condition in which the supply of a good, service, or asset exceeds demand at the prevailing price level, exerting downward pressure that does not dissipate until the supply side adjusts. In renewable-energy and commodity projects, capacity coming online simultaneously in the same region can create a local oversupply that pushes the spot price below the contracted price; merchant volume unsold under a long-term PPA or offtake is precisely the layer where revenue risk concentrates in this scenario, and lenders usually limit the leverage they fund to contracted cash flow.
