English Definition
The construction of a fixed asset by an enterprise for its own use, with its own resources and labor rather than by tendering to a third-party contractor; the cost is not expensed but capitalized into the book value of the asset produced. Because it removes the margin paid to a contractor, this method can offer a cost advantage; but in project finance, the lender sees that own-account construction lacks the protections of an independent EPC contract — fixed price, completion guarantee, liquidated damages — and typically prices this structure more conservatively, since it must carry the completion risk itself.
