English Definition
A bond issued in the name of its owner, whose ownership is determined by the entry in a register kept by the issuer; it is the counterpart of a bearer bond, and its transfer is valid only through a change in the register. Because the registered form pays interest and principal directly to the recorded holder, it reduces the risk of loss and theft and eases withholding and tax reporting; in issuing project bonds to institutional investors, this registered form is the effective standard for the traceability of the chain of ownership and for regulatory compliance.
