İhracatçının, malı sevk etmeden önce üretim, ambalajlama ve hazırlık masraflarını finanse edebilmesi için akreditif tutarının bir kısmını sevkiyat öncesinde çekmesine izin veren akreditif türüdür; klasik biçiminde bu yetki metne kırmızı mürekkeple yazıldığından red-clause olarak da anılır. Alıcının bankası henüz sevkiyat gerçekleşmeden avans riskini üstlendiğinden, yapı özünde alıcının ihracatçıya sağladığı bir ön finansmandır. İhracat finansmanında bu enstrüman, işletme sermayesi kısıtlı bir tedarikçinin büyük ölçekli bir siparişi üretebilmesini mümkün kılar; ancak avansın malın fiilî sevkiyatıyla mahsup edilmemesi, alıcı tarafta doğrudan bir ön ödeme kaybı riski doğurur.
English Definition
A letter of credit that lets the exporter draw part of the credit amount before shipment, to finance production, packing and preparation costs; in its classic form this authority was written in red ink, hence the red-clause name. Because the buyer's bank assumes advance risk before any shipment has occurred, the structure is in essence pre-financing extended by the buyer to the exporter. In export finance this instrument enables a supplier with constrained working capital to produce a large-scale order; yet failure of the advance to be set off against actual shipment creates a direct pre-payment loss risk on the buyer's side.
