English Definition
The party in whose favour a charge or security interest is granted. In syndicated lending this is typically a security trustee acting for the pool of lenders rather than any single bank. The intercreditor agreement governs how the chargee may enforce and in what order it distributes proceeds among senior, mezzanine and hedging creditors; that ranking, rather than the mere identity of the secured party, is where the real negotiation lies, since it decides who is made whole and who absorbs the shortfall.
