English Definition
The official currency of the Philippines, denoted PHP. In cross-border project finance the mismatch between a Philippine project earning revenue in local currency and hard-currency debt is a risk difficult and costly to hedge fully over a long tenor, given the relatively shallow forward market for the peso. Lenders therefore often manage the currency exposure structurally, embedding a wider debt-service coverage cushion and a foreign-exchange reserve account rather than attempting to lay the risk off entirely in the market.
