Bir kart ya da hesap sahibinin kimliğini doğrulamak için kullanılan, yalnızca sahibinin bilmesi gereken kişisel gizli sayısal koddur. Ödeme sistemlerinde PIN, sahip olunan (kart) ile bilinen (kod) unsurunu birleştiren iki faktörlü doğrulamanın temelini oluşturur; kurumsal proje hesaplarının yönetiminde asıl risk kodun kendisinden çok, yetkilendirilmiş imza sahipleri arasında paylaşımını ve rotasyonunu düzenleyen iç kontrol disiplininin zayıflığında yoğunlaşır.
English Definition
A personal secret numeric code, known only to its holder, used to authenticate the identity of a card or account holder. In payment systems the PIN forms the basis of two-factor authentication, combining something possessed (the card) with something known (the code); in the administration of corporate project accounts the real risk concentrates less in the code itself than in the weakness of the internal-control discipline governing its sharing and rotation among authorized signatories.
