English Definition
A telephone terminal on which the user gains access, payment or transaction authority by entering a personal secret code; the device of early telephone-based payment forms where the memorized code, rather than a card, is the authentication factor. The core vulnerability of such channels is the absence of any physical possession factor should the line be intercepted or the code obtained through social engineering; transaction limits and added verification layers are therefore the principal means of bounding the risk.
