English Definition
The party that creates a pledge in favour of a creditor over an asset it owns, as security for a debt or obligation. It is the standard term in legal terminology for the party granting the pledge. In project financing the identity of the pledgor determines the legal durability of the security; where the project company itself is the pledgor the security is direct, but where shares are concerned the pledgor is the holding company or sponsor, and because this distinction governs which legal entity the step-in right runs through on default, it is a knot in the security architecture that must be structured with care.
