English Definition
The port, named in the contract of carriage, to which the cargo is to be conveyed for discharge or delivery, and which forms the geographic reference point for the delivery term and the associated transfer of risk and cost. Because the choice of Incoterm makes this point determine which party bears freight and insurance and up to where, the precision of its designation directly affects the commercial outcome. Under a letter of credit, an ambiguous or incorrectly stated port of destination can break the conditions for conforming presentation and lead to payment being suspended.
