English Definition
A publicly announced reference price at which a party stands ready to transact — the posted prices historically applied to crude oil, or the prices quoted by dealers, are examples. This price may diverge from the market or spot price. In offtake and commodity projects, whether the reference-pricing mechanism is tied to a posted price or to an index determines the predictability of revenue; indeed, historical posted prices in oil often functioned as administered references for tax and royalty computation, decoupling from realized market prices and becoming a fiscal-regime quirk specific to the jurisdiction and the era.
