English Definition
A generation facility that converts an energy source, thermal, hydro, wind, solar or nuclear, into electricity and delivers it to the grid. In an independent power producer model the plant is the project's revenue-generating core asset, and that revenue is typically tied through a power purchase agreement to the plant's availability or its actual output. Under an availability-based contract the plant earns to the extent it stands ready even when it does not physically generate, whereas an output-based structure leaves revenue exposed to dispatch and resource risk, a distinction that fundamentally alters how predictable the debt service is.
