English Definition
The judge who presides over the International Court of Justice, the principal judicial organ of the United Nations; elected from among the Court's members for a three-year term, with a casting vote where votes are equal. Its indirect significance in project finance and inter-state credit documents is that some arbitration and contractual clauses name the ICJ President as the fallback appointing authority when the parties cannot agree on an arbitrator; in sovereign or DFI transactions this serves as a neutral safety valve that breaks a deadlock which would otherwise stall enforcement.
