The practice whereby the lead manager of a newly issued security supports its secondary-market price through stabilizing bids during the initial post-issue period, keeping it from breaking below the offering price. Nursing bridges the brief demand vacuum that follows the closing of the order book; in most jurisdictions it is permissible only within the disclosed stabilization window and the limits of the greenshoe option, beyond which it shades into manipulation. In project bond issues this support absorbs early institutional selling pressure and lets the primary distribution settle in an orderly fashion.
