English Definition
An actor able to determine the price of its product or service rather than have it imposed by the market — that is, one holding pricing power. This power typically derives from a differentiated product, a high barrier to entry, or a concentrated supply structure. In power markets the marginal plant, the last unit dispatched, sets the clearing price for that hour; a generator can therefore be a price setter in some hours and a price taker in others, and this switching feeds directly into the volatility of a project's revenue model.
