A comprehensive report prepared after a project's completion, documenting realized cost, duration, technical performance, and deviations from original targets. In development banks it serves as an institutional learning instrument and forms a reference for appraising future projects. An experienced reader watches the ratio of realized cost to budget and the completion delay; these two indicators directly influence the calibration of the contingency and the scope of the completion guarantee that a lender will demand of the same sponsor or contractor on later projects.
