English Definition
The stage at which candidate projects for financing are first detected and pre-screened within an investment programme or development strategy. The quality of this stage determines the yield of the entire downstream pipeline, since weak identification disperses development resource across projects that will never reach close. A seasoned institution calibrates its identification criteria on early financeability signals — the presence of a creditworthy offtaker, the reachability of site control, the predictability of the regulatory frame — as much as on strategic fit, because a project that looks attractive but cannot be financed is a silent cost line on the portfolio.
