English Definition
A ratio showing how many of the projects entering a development pipeline are eliminated before reaching financial close or operation. This ratio is decisive for understanding the real economics of development activity, since the return on the projects that close must also cover the sunk development cost of those that never do. An experienced developer manages the pipeline not by gross project count but by stage-to-stage conversion rates — permit to interconnection, interconnection to financing — because attrition usually concentrates at a particular bottleneck stage, and screening that bottleneck out early curtails the capital bleeding into dead projects.
